We use CTD data from recent cruises to show that PGW and RSW also exist in the bay. Among them, only ASHSW has been shown to exist in the Bay of Bengal. It is shown that while model NADW has two distinct outcrops (in the Arctic and North Atlantic), its formation primarily takes place in the subpolar Labrador and Irminger seas. The high-salinity water masses that originate in the North Indian Ocean are Arabian Sea High-Salinity Water (ASHSW), Persian Gulf Water (PGW), and Red Sea Water (RSW). A bed of more persistent NASMW is detected below the mixed layer with an expected age of 8.7 years.
